Getting to St Petersburg or Nizhny Novgorod as well as many other distant cities is possible by sleeper train. If you want to save time on the journey, use the high-speed Sapsan train, which will get you to the necessary city in only 4 hours. For more information and buying tickets, visit

Long-distance trains

Long-distance trains link Moscow with a number of cities from Paris to Beijing, and the time taken en route may be a whole week. Departing from Moscow to distant cities you will, most likely, use long-distance trains. Passengers can choose between lux (First Class) carriages, as well as the more common kupe of berth compartments for 2 or 4 people, as well as platskarta (shared) carriages. In all classes service includes bed sheets and hot tea. The majority of trains have a restaurant carriage. Tickets can be bought in ticket offices, at station terminals, or on the internet at

If you want to make your journey as comfortable and pleasant as possible, turn your attention to trains of the highest level of comfort, which include kupe compartment, sleeper and VIP carriages. The comfort of these trains is on a par with modern prestigious hotels. For more information, see

Fast trains

To many cities located within 200 km of Moscow it is most convenient to take the fast express trains. Without extra stops you can reach large cities and centres of neighbouring regions within three hours.

For timetables:,

Do not risk ending up in a traffic jam in a taxi and being late for your flight. It is better to use the high-speed Aeroexpress trains to all three Moscow airports: Belorussky Station – Sheremetyevo Airport, Kievsky Station – Vnukovo Airport, Paveletsky Station – Domodedovo Airport. The express departs every hour and the journey takes between 35 and 45 minutes.

Entrance to the airport trains is through a separate entrance to the station.

Find out about the next Aeroexpress departures by sending an SMS from your mobile phone to 3115 with the text:
